Have you a spare corner in your house that you're not sure what to do with? Or does your lounge feel too sparse with your sofas sitting out against the walls, but bringing them into a cosy formation leaves wasted space behind? Maybe you have a very small space for a dining area in your lounge, yet you don't use it as such.
Ever thought of creating a cosy reading nook?
All it takes is one chair, one rug, one lamp and any combination of the following: bookcase, table, plants, books, magazines, and any other objects that bring you joy.
By bringing together a selection of bits from around your home, you can easily create a cosy area that just invites you in for some quiet time with your feet up.
Not just for reading, this can be a relaxing space away from the tv, where you sit with a book or magazine.
Indulging in a nice cuppa or your morning coffee, maybe enjoying some relaxing music; this could be your little quiet space.
It could be the '20 minutes to unwind' space for any member of the family.
Or it could be an evening haven, away from everyone else when they are watching the telly.
If you are lucky you might have a space in front of a window, or you could find a dark corner to make into your cosy and welcoming nook.
Styling ideas
Create your 'zone' by laying down a rug. Artwork will also help delineate the area. Arrange the rest of your chosen furniture to create your cosy snug.
1. You don't need to have a bookcase full of books to start with. If you only have a few you can fill the remaining space with other things, or arrange your books to take up more space initially.
2. A standard lamp is great for directing light down at your reading matter when you need more illumination. However, something like this classic articulating desk lamp is also great as you can adjust it to suit whoever is in the chair.
3. Bring the joy of special memories to your chillin' space with a selection of your favourite family photos.
4. Use a variety of plants - real or faux, to add an air of opulance to the area. They will also add a feeling of peace and serenity to your nook.
5. Treasured objects can be displayed here and will bring you joy every time you settle down and relax. Perhaps special gifts that you want to find the perfect place for.
