After a house purchase, these long-standing customers had their work cut out to renovate the whole house.
Having asked us to help design a new kitchen they gutted the space so we had a fairly blank canvas to start with. However, some specific design issues dictated the layout for their new kitchen:
- This kitchen has a natural 'corridor' to it, going between the entry point and the back door
- A large window takes up much of one wall
- The boiler and meters are housed within the kitchen and need to be readily accessed
Of course, a cooker, washing machine, fridge, freezer and dishwasher all had to be fitted into this relatively small space.
Following a measuring visit, our dedicated kitchen designer was able to come up with a perfect plan that incorporates everything required.
The kitchen 'shell' before work started
- The kitchen doorway and back door are more or less in line, with a window breaking up the outside, left-hand wall
- The kitchen sink sits under the window
- The boiler resides to the right of the window
- Opposite the boiler on the inside wall is a recess which also houses the meters
Sockets were ample, or had been added, to facilitate under counter appliances. Currently, a tall fridge freezer was being used but was not being kept.
The main task? How to incorporate as much storage and work surface as possible.
The final look
Style
- The customer chose a Nova kitchen with painted gloss doors in grey, reflecting lots of light, with brushed nickel T-bar handles
- High wall units were chosen to maximise wall storage
- Alusplash splashbacks and windowsills in matt Carrara marble are easy to clean and keep the kitchen bright
- A laminate worktop with wood effect finish adds some warmth to the colour scheme
- Matching shelving was used in a corner for the customer to have items on display
- Under cabinet strip lighting was added
- Flooring is also from Colour Supplies. Arpa alpine bruma is a porcelain tile with a wood effect
Function
- Built in Indesit appliances were chosen for the double built under oven, gas hob and curved glass chimney hood
- Freestanding Bosch appliances included a slim dishwasher, built under fridge, and built under freezer
- The electrics are all boxed in and hidden away, and additional doors are used in the alcove to match the kitchen
- A full-height shelved larder unit is incorporated into this recessed cupboard area
- The boiler is also housed in a matching wall cupboard to continue the cohesive design
- Clever use of angled worktop and slimline units below, allow for easier entry through both doorways
- There is even enough space for the addition of a slimline table and two chairs
All in all, a great job and happy customers ✓
